This unknown device was discovered during the attack that followed the destruction of the Cylon Resurrection Hub. Next to nothing is known of the devices origins or purpose.
It was discovered as it was emanating a signal in the area where the device then activated, sending out a pulse of energy which caused all nearby ships FTL engines to overload when they activated.
This caused both the Colonial and Cylon fleets within range to unexpectedly FTL jump to an unknown sector of the galaxy and burn through most of their Tylium reserves. The overload to the FTL drives caused severe damage to many ships of both fleets. Due to the damage caused and lack of Tylium, both fleets are stranded in the Veil Sectors Cygnus Nebula.
A theory is that the device was an experimental weapon created during the First Cylon War which would cause any ship to explode should they have used their FTL drives.
